nirvana > learning to fly >> tandem rides

on booking a tandem ride we will give you a time (either 8 to 9 in the morning or 3 pm in the afternoon depending on the time of the year and the site we are flying at) to meet us at a particular flying site.

At any given day we may have students, pilots as well as other tandem passengers. Depending on the wind conditions the chief instructor will decide on who goes first / how the day is going to progress. When it is time for you to fly, the pilot will help you into your gear and brief you about what to expect and what is expected of you. He then waits for the right wind, inflate the wing and within a few short steps you will be airborne.

Although the flight takes 10 to 15 minutes the experience is breathtaking and will seem timeless like a dream. The entire process of meeting the crew, walking up to the site, watching the wind, the students and pilots takeoff as well as the vultures, the eagles and the beautiful scenery, then the anticipation before your own flight and finally the wonder and excitement that comes after takes an entire half day.

How young / light do I have to be?
Age is not a bar, as long as you are game for a little uphill exercise and weigh between 25 and 95 kilograms

Do I need to be fit?
You don’t need to be fit or sporty but a little bit of exercise is called for which depending on the site may include a 10 minute uphill climb.

How to book?
Simply call us or email us with your dates and contact details

What to wear?
Long sleeve shirts & pants, good walking shoes and sun protection of your choice. Plenty of water would be a good idea as well.

How long is the flight?
The flight takes 10 to 15 minutes. The experience is breathtaking and will seem timeless like a dream.

How much time do we need to set aside for the experience?
Set aside half a day from the time you get to the site.
The process of meeting the crew, walking up to the site, watching the wind, the students on the ground, pilots and vultures circling in the air, the beautiful scenery, then the anticipation before your own flight and finally the wonder and excitement that comes after takes an entire half day.

How safe is it?
Safety is our main consideration and we take a number of steps to ensure your safety and our own. Our pilots are well trained and have numerous years of experience flying these sites and assessing the weather conditions here. We use the latest state of the art equipment. We will not hesitate to cancel a flight in case of bad weather.

What happens if the wind is not right?
In the rare event that you do not fly, we will reschedule your flight.

Can I carry my camera along?
Sure you can. In-flight you will be secure in your harness and feel comfortable enough to use your clicking finger.

Site etiquette to follow!
keep the takeoff clear, don’t litter, be courteous to the farmers, don’t walk through planted fields

Please note: Safety is our main concern and we are reliant on good weather conditions for safe progression of individuals in their training or tandem flights. Our area is fortunate enough to have the best all year round climate in the country with light to moderate winds most of the year round, so fly able days are plentiful.

WE FLY and TEACH all year round. No other school can honestly say they do the same.

If during your Flight bad weather does occur you will be credited for it and can then complete that Flight/Activity at another date. Vouchers have a life and must be used in the stated time frames. No cash refunds on flight monies.
